Timeline Leonardo Da Vinci


Leonardo Da Vinci is a living legend. His ingenuity left ever lasting imprints in the fields of painting, sculpture, architecture, engineering and science.

Timeline of Leonardo Da Vinci:
1452: Leonardo, the Italian Renaissance artist is born on April 15 in the village of Anchiano, near the town of Vinci.
1467: At the age of fifteen, Leonardo is sent by his father to work as an apprentice to Andrea De Verrocchio.
1472: Leonardo is taken into the painters’ guild of Florence.
1476: Leonardo suffers public humiliation on the charges of sodomy, which were later dismissed. 
1478: Leonardo paints the Annunciation to the Virgin.
1481: Leonardo commences work on The Adoration of the Magi. The work is left incomplete. During this time, many well-known Florentine artists are summoned by the Pope excluding Vinci.  
1482: Leonardo takes up work under the Duke of Milan as a painter and engineer.
1483: Leonardo paints the Virgin of the Rocks.
1485: Leonardo paints Lady with an Ermine.
1489: Leonardo studies anatomy.
1490: Leonardo commences a book on landscape and hydraulic works, which was never completed.
1495: Leonardo starts working on The Last Supper in the refectory of the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan.
1498: Leonardo completes The Last Supper and decorates the walls and ceiling of the Sala delle Asse.
1499: Leonardo leaves Milan after the fall of the Duke. He stays in Venice for a while.
1500: Leonardo begins painting the Virgin and Child with Saint Anne. It took him ten years to complete this project. The year also marks his comeback to Florence.
1502: Leonardo works in the designation of senior military architect and general engineer for Cesare Borgia, the son of Pope Alexander VI.
1503: Leonardo is assigned to paint the Mona Lisa. He is also commissioned to paint the Battle of Anghiari in Florence, another unfinished task of his.
1504: Leonardo’s father dies on July 9.
1505: Leonardo completes the painting of Mona Lisa. He decides to discard the painting of Battle of Anghiari owing to wear and tear.
1513: Leonardo moves to Rome and studies the properties of a mirror.
1515: Leonardo paints St. John, the Baptist.
1516: Leonardo is invited by the king of France for a project.
1519: Leonardo breathes his last on May 2, in France.
