Does Bill Gates Own Apple Computers ?
Few people may remember that Microsoft used to make a version of Office tailor-made for Mac, and Apple made iTunes available on PC. |
But this raises a point as to whether Bill Gates owns Apple Computers. Many believe he owns about 0.05 percent of Apple, the assumption based on the fact that Mac had started using Windows XP. This hypothesis is augmented by the reality that years ago Bill Gates helped write code for Mac OS.
Many theories float around as to their association, and whether or not Bill Gates has a proprietary interest in Apple. But no one knows for certain. During a period of crisis Apple went through in 1977, Microsoft came to its rescue by picking up 150 million shares of Apple stock. In return there was a loose agreement that Apple would make IE its default browser and Microsoft would continue with Office. This collaboration gave rise to speculation of ownership.
Despite the question of mutual holdings the fact remains that the two continue to dominate the world computer market.
In 1985, Gates and Jobs stood shoulder to shoulder at the release of Excel.
Twenty years down the line, Bill Gates stated: ‘Microsoft has millions of customers who rely on Mac’s Technology and they can be assured that Microsoft products for the Mac will continue to be available.’ It is apparent that over the years they have worked together mutually resolving problems either technical or managerial. This association has spawned theories of ownership, the truth of which is perhaps known only to Gates and his coterie.
