The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation believes that every life has equal value. It works to help everyone lead healthy and productive life.

 

The Foundation focuses on improving people’s health and giving them a better chance to alleviate themselves from hunger and extreme poverty in developing countries. In the U.S it strives to ensure that all people have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in both school and life in the world at large.

The Foundation was founded in 2000 by Bill and Melinda Gates and is the largest transparently operated private charitable foundation in the world. Based in Seattle, Washington, it is controlled by three trustees -- Bill Gates, Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet.

It supports three program areas:

United States Programs: where it believes that all people in the country should have the opportunity to develop their talents that the society thrives. The purpose of the Foundation in the United States is to ensure greater opportunity to all Americans through the attainment of secondary and post-secondary education with genuine economic values. It works closely with partners to overcome difficult problems that exist in the United States and focuses on improving public education. Areas of priority include education, libraries and special initiatives.

Global Development: The purpose is to increase opportunities to people in developing countries to overcome hunger and poverty. The Foundation focuses on areas with high impact, sustainable solutions that will reach most people. It works closely with partners to support innovative approaches and expand existing ones.

Global Health: The mission is to ensure that advances in health are created and shared with those who need them most. It targets diseases and health conditions that cause greatest illness and death in the developing countries. They deal with diseases like malaria, diarrhea, HIV/AIDS, polio and pneumonia.
