Tour Of Bill Gates Home

Bill Gates lives in the exclusive suburb of Medina, Washington, in a huge earth-sheltered residence in the side of a hill overlooking Lake Washington. The resident encompasses more than 66,000 square feet, equal to 1.5 acres. The house includes seven bedrooms, 24 bathrooms, 6 kitchens and 6 fireplaces.

The 21st century modern residence in the “Pacific Lodge” style, with advanced electronic systems everywhere has a great interior design. In one respect it is more like an 18th century mansion with a large private library and a domed reading room. It has a classic flavor and many unique qualities. Among the many marvels is the revolving works of art. The floors are pressure sensitive, which helps the family member know who is in the residence by the weight of their footsteps. The lights automatically come on when you come in. Speakers are hidden beneath the wallpaper to allow music to follow from room to room. Portable touch pads control everything from the TV sets to the temperature and the lights, which brighten or dim to match the occasion. Visitors to the residence are surveyed and given a microchip which sends signals throughout the home.

Inside the luxury residence is a large swimming pool that has an underwater music system and floor painted in a fossil motif. Swimmers can dive under a glass wall and emerge outdoors by a terrace. The grand staircase is 92 ft long and 63 ft high with 84 steps. Towering Douglass fir beams support the stainless steel roof and is surrounded by walls of glass, concrete and stone.  The 20 seat art deco theatre is outfitted with plush chairs, couches and a popcorn machine. The exercise rooms includes sauna, steam room, lockers, trampoline room with a 20ft ceiling.

The formal dining room can accommodate up to 24 guests by the fireplace while enjoying the sweeping view from the third level. While most of the house is buried into the hillside, windows on the lakefront provide views of Seattle.
