Michael Dell On Optiplex Failure
The Optiplex range of personal computers is manufactured and marketed by Dell Computers. These computers were brought out to fill the IT needs of medium and large businesses. On the onset, Optiplex computers were a rage and happy Dell consumers and customers were eager to grab them. |
However, a few months down the line, these same happy consumers and customers were no longer happy. Many of the computers had faulty capacitor, a device that stores power and helps to regular that voltage. As a result of the fault, the capacitor expanded and would not power up. Users were faced with intermittent shutdown, thermal shutdown and video failure.
While Dell has not been very popular for its customer service, problem with Optiplex just added to their woes as their call centers were not able to handle calls by angry customers.
While Michael Dell himself has not said anything on Optiplex failure, a Dell company spokesperson assured consumers and media that the company had stopped shipping all computers with faulty capacitors. The spokesperson also mentioned that the company had no intention of recalling the faulty products which must have enraged many Optiplex users facing problem with their PCs. Dell said that the reason for not recalling faulty computers was because just a small percentage of the computers had the problem and Dell was going to conduct field visits to replace affected computers.
The Dell forum members were the first to point out the problem with Optiplex computers and they suggested a simple but time consuming solution to the problem. The forum members suggested replacing the faulty motherboard.
