Enrique Iglesias, the Spanish songwriter cum singer, was born on May 8, 1975 in Madrid, Spain to Julio Iglesias, a Spanish singer, and Isabel Preysler, a Filipina magazine journalist and socialite. His parents divorced in 1978 after which his father moved to the US. |

In 1983, Enrique’s grandfather was kidnapped by ETA, the Spanish terrorist group, after which he was sent with his brother to live in Miami with their father. He graduated from Gulliver Preparatory School in 1993 and continued with business studies at the University of Miami.
Not wishing to ride on his father’s fame, Enrique recorded his first demo tape with two English and one Spanish title under the nom de plume of Enrique Martinez of unknown Guatemalan identity. He was signed up by a small company after which he moved to Toronto, Ontario to record his first album. A collection of light ballads, his maiden album launched in July 1995 crossed the half million mark in the first week.
Enrique’s meteoric musical rise came with the Mexican indie label Fonovisa, which made him the hottest artist in Latin America and Hispanic US. At the time he sold more Spanish language albums than any contemporary artist.
To date, he has launched 11 albums in English and Spanish, has made several tours around the world, has appeared on numerous celebrity shows and has lost count of the awards he has won. On January 17, 2009, at the NRJ Music Awards in France, he was named Best International Male Artist.
Enrique made a foray into acting and has starred with such celebrity actors as Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek and Johnny Depp. He starred in a Pepsi commercial with Britney Spears, Beyonce and Pink.
With his ‘boy next door’ image he draws fans with an insane fervor unseen since the Beatles. At various times, Enrique has been linked with different women. For the last six years, however, he has constantly been with Anna Kournikova, the ex-Russian tennis star. Their relationship has survived rumors of break-ups and marriages.
