He had very strong opinions and put them out clearly in the speeches and that is what most Americans appreciated in him. When campaigning Obama often said that he belonged to a family of middle class where his grandfather was a cook, and father a foreign student.
His maternal grandparents also worked for a living in Hawaii and he had to go through life with poverty and difficulties. Nevertheless, it did not stop him from getting an education and also going to the premier Ivy League schools of America including Harvard.
Barack Obama was also the editor of the Harvard Law Journal and he was exceptionally good in public speaking. These qualities helped to a large extent while campaigning and he delivered speeches without any effort or preparation. Most of the speeches that he wrote were his own and he did not need a writer at any time.
One of his most popular speeches is about the change that America needs. This one speech won him a lot of acclaims when he was campaigning against John McCain. In his speeches he always clearly mentioned his diverse background and how it has helped him grow as a person in different religious backgrounds. However, today whatever religious beliefs that he holds are the values of Christianity.
