Barack Obama’s complete name is Barack Hussein Obama Jr. His father, Barack Obama Sr., was from Kenya and he came to the United States because he was a student. Barack’s father and grandfather were Kenyan Muslims but had no influence on Barack’s upbringing. In fact, his father left them when he was only two years old. |
When Barack was 6 years old, his mother met an Indonesian Muslim and married him. Later, Barack moved to Indonesia with his mother and stepfather.
His stepfather did not have any religious influence on Barack and soon after Barack’s sister was born, he was sent back to Hawaii to his maternal grandparents. He was 10 years old at that time. It was his maternal grandparents who had brought him up and they were religious people. His grandmother always had taught him the values of Christianity and as a person he also believed in Christianity.
When questioned about his Muslim origin, Obama says that a man is who he believes in. Even though he has Muslim blood in him, he belongs to the Christian faith. His father was never there when he grew up and met him only once when he was 11 years old in Hawaii. Though his father wrote to him regularly, they hardly met even in holidays.
His wife Michelle is a firm believer of Christianity and they are also bringing up their daughters as per Christian values. In fact, in any aspect of their daily lives, religious beliefs and food habits, it cannot be said that Barack Obama is a Muslim.
