Obama Equal Pay Bill
The first bill to be signed by the new United States President is the Equal Pay bill. This bill ensures that men and women in America are paid equally given their qualifications are the same and they match up in every other way. Obama declared that this bill is an equal step in declaring the fundamental equality between American men and women. |
He feels that men and women put in equal amounts of effort for the economy and there should be no parity in their pay scales.
He also mentioned that there are no second class citizens when it comes to work place and gender inequality in any respect should not be tolerated. He said the factors that cannot influence the pay scale henceforth are gender, race, ethnicity, age, religion and disability.
Equal pay is not meant to ease hundreds of American families from financial strife but also to represent the American ideals. It should not be made into a women’s issue or a family issue according to him. He says that in the modern age of recession and financial strife there is no guarantee of man being the breadwinner and in many households of America, women are the breadwinners. So, why should they be paid less when they shoulder equal amount of responsibilities. He also pointed out that in an average middle class household a woman spends twenty five to thirty years of her life working and at the end of the day why should she carry less money for her retirement. By passing this bill Obama won many a woman’s heart.
