Famous Scientist Biography


History is replete with scientists, possibly the oldest ranging to Thales of Miletus (638-548 BC) the Greek philosopher who developed the theory of matter. Every millennium has thrown up its own scientists. Possibly some of the best-known to affect our modern lives, from different disciplines, are as follows:

Biography of Famous Scientists:
Isaac Newton (1643-1727) was an English mathematician and founder of differential and integral calculus. He is one of the greatest scientists in the world particularly for his works on optics and gravity. Newton is best known for his three laws of motion.

Charles Darwin (1809-1882) revolutionized the way the world thought of creation. Because his theories were in direct confrontation with religious teachings, they were severely attacked at the time but are generally accepted today. He authored the book The Origin of Species,which postulated that man and all other species on earth had descended from orgasms by a process of selective evolution.

Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was an Austrian psychiatrist best known for his theories of the unconscious mind. He founded the Psychoanalytical school of Psychology. His concepts even now have a bearing on humanities and certain social sciences.

Marie Curie (1867-1934) was of Polish descent but did most of a work in France. She was the winner of two Nobel Prizes and the first female instructor at the Sorbonne, Paris. She took degrees in mathematics, physics and chemistry. She is best known for her works on x-rays. Curie died of leukemia because of exposure to high doses of radiation in the course of her research.
