As he was big made and extremely tall, he was also called the Eighth Wonder of the World.Andre suffered from gigantism, and this was caused due to the malfunctioning of the pituitary gland. The production of excessive hormones right from birth led to gigantism. By the time André was 12 years old, he was already six feet and two inches tall. When he enrolled in wrestling he was about 7 feet and 4 inches tall. Due to his size and figure, he was the undefeated hero for more than a decade in the professional wrestling arena.
Andre at his height of 7 feet and 4 inches weighed around 540 pounds. That was a massive weight for any body to handle. He died of heart failure which was expected. His heart could not pump the blood eventually to maintain his body and weight. The problem with André was that the 540 pounds was purely body mass and there was no fat. He was not considered obese at any point of time. However, the human heart has its limitations, and that is why it is impossible physically to sustain a long life.
When Andre was 30 years old he started suffering from severe backache and knee pain which was caused due to the lack of blood supply to his vital organs and body muscles. The problems only progressed and became worse as he aged.
